Just thought I'd add my $.02.  My most successful and favorite way of
getting to know the hospital staff has been sharing rides to educational
events or state breastfeeding coalition meetings.

There's nothing like an hour with just you a passenger/driver and the open
road.

Of course car pooling is also economical and environmentally friendly!
