Rob, what a great opportunity to spread the word about breastfeeding and how
it can be combined with employment. Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies has a
number of publications detailing the lactation programs offered by some of
the major employers in the US. Reporters love numbers. A few sound bites come
to mind:

- in the first year of its corporate lactation program, Aetna Inc estimated a
savings of $1435 in medical claims and 3 days of sick leave per breastfed
baby - an almost 3 to 1 return on investment in claims alone

- two major policy documents call for worksite protection of breastfeeding,
HHS Blueprint for Action on Breastfeeding from the Surgeon General and the US
Breastfeeding Committee's Strategic Plan for Breastfeeding in the United
States

- each week of work leave increases breastfeeding duration by one half of a
week

- returning to work in the first 12 weeks after giving birth is related to
the greatest decrease in breastfeeding duration

- the US should be encouraged to ratify the ILO maternity leave and
breastfeeding protection agreement

- a mention of the various states that have enacted legislation for worksite
protection of breastfeeding like Texas

Stuff like this allows the reporter to pick up on something that he or she
may find interesting. Make sure you control the interview. Pick three points
to get across and maneuver the conversation to these points. Do not allow a
reporter to lead you down a path that deviates from your message! Do not
speak "off the record." Everything in on the record! Avoid saying anything
that you do not want in print. Been there!
