After hearing about this fiasco THANK GOODNESS there is currently proposed legislation in Michigan to make it law that mothers can breastfeed anywhere they are legally allowed to be. Maybe we can get up to speed with other states who already have that one on the books. With some legal muscle we can take it and run with it in our state!! Too bad it takes that legal muscle for a mother to simply feed her child.

Hi everyone,

What bothers me about these stories is the way they intimidate moms who are already afraid to breastfeed in public.

Here's another Target incident:

A woman comes to the service desk to complain that there is a mom breastfeeding in the Food Service area and to request that someone tell the mother to stop doing that. The employee behind the desk tells her he can't ask the mother to stop because she's allowed to nurse in the store. The woman demands to see the manager, who when summoned, tells the woman the same thing - they're not going to ask the mother to stop.

Of course, this incident, and I'm sure many others like it, never make it into the news. Just the stories of mothers being harrassed and abused. So the public perception is skewed, reinforcing the message that public breastfeeding is rare and dangerous.

I only know about this incident because the employee at the service desk was my son, who after seeing 2 younger brothers nurse for several years (each), knew who was in the right that day :)
