As I complete my review of the newest Babywise released in May, I noted
the following in the feeding chapter and endnotes:

The advice on feeding intervals has been adjusted-- obviously (IMHO) due
to pressure from the AAP statement. Ezzo now allows for babies 2 mos or
less to be fed "approximately every 2.5 hrs to 3 hrs from the beginning
of one feeding to the beginning of the next." In the same paragraph he
says that "in actual practice, a 2 1/2 hr routine means you will nurse
your baby two hours from the end of the last feeding to the start of the
next........ adding back 20-30 min for the actual feeding time, you will
complete your three hour cycle" ..... "avg 8-10 times in early
weeks." Well, that's nice that they are "allowing" this now. You kind
of hear a possibility of 10 times a day, but really their example
promotes 8 and that "speaks" more loudly. (and of course no retractions
for advice in previous books-- changes are the result of "impressive
advancements" previously unknown!)

They also quote K Huggins saying that after the first few days of
breastfeeding, supplementing by bottle rarely causes nipple confusion (my
comment: therefore, don't worry if you *need* to supplement on our
program; nothing terrible will happen).

THE RUB: Later on, when they talk about needing an LC, they warn moms to
resist any questioning of the use of a schedule (now retitled "routine")
AND TO QUOTE THE SOURCES CITED IN THE FEEDING CHAPTER. And guess who
those sources are? : AAP stmt; Frank Oski; Nelson's pediatrics; Kathleen
Huggins, Riordan & Auerbach. IOW, they are in essence suggesting that
the above authors are in agreement with Babywise teachings! Never mind
that, though the new BW gives the appearance of agreeing with latest
recommendations, it still drops mothers precipitously off the milk supply
cliff and hasn't changed its basic stance that getting baby to sleep
through the night is THE goal of early infant care.

How do you all feel about this newest twist? Personally, I'm disgusted
with what I see as the unethical manipulation of academic resources.
