Recent posts about chewing gum and nursing reminded me of a story.
I have heard several moms comment that their nursing toddler who
also chewed gum (let's not get sidetracked in a discussion of the
reasons to/not to let kids have gum-that's not the point here)
insisted on "parking" the gum on mom's breast while nursing.
Another mom had a nursing toddler who really loved his "binky"
(pacifier) when not nursing. In fact he loved it so much that he
wanted to share this marvelous object with Mommy. As a result, he
insisted that she have the pacifier in her mouth while he was
nursing! (Maybe that's like the people that think what goes in
mom's mouth automatically goes right through the breast and into the
milk. Perhaps this was his way of having both the nursing and the
pacifier at the same time?) Anyway, she diceded that while it was
annoying, the battles weren't worth it and she obliged. She
reported an incident when she was nursing him in the car (before car
seats) and of course, she had the pacifier in her mouth. They came
to a stop sign by a bus stop. People at the bus stop couldn't see
the toddler nursing, just the grown lady with a pacifier in her
mouth. She called out the open window and said "I,m trying to quit
smoking!"

Linda Smith, feel free to use in your next collection of funny
nursing stories.
