I am new to Lactnet and have been lurking for a few
weeks. I am a LC and mother of 3.

Now about the microwaving daycare...
I had this problem when I took my child to daycare.
I had two alternatives and both worked nicely. One was that I kept an extra
cup in the diaper bag and asked that they heat water in the cup in the
microwave and then after removing the water from the microwave put the
frozen bottle in the heated water to dethaw. (warning heating the water too
much will only cause the bag or bottle to rupture). The second choice was
that I purchased a bottle warmer that plugs in and asked that they use that
when heating my bottles. I had 2 different babies and 2 different daycare's
but they both complied with my requests. I think sometimes we want to make
things too easy for everyone else and worry too much about what they will
think if we make requests. I always have to remind myself, I am the
customer, I am paying for these services.

When microwaves heat, they heat unevenly.
So even though the milk is only
warmed to room temp, some "hot spots" may
heat much higher, while some stay
much cooler. When the bottle is shaken,
they all mix to room temperature,
although some hot spots may reform for a
while, even after removal from the
microwave oven.
