How can we as a lactation community criticize others for not being 
accurate about the definition of 'exclusive breastfeeding' when we don't 
agree ourselves on it?  I was horrified recently by the number of people 
on this list who posted supporting giving babies probiotics.  To me, 
this means those babies would no longer be exclusively breastfed.  
Exclusive breastfeeding means that the only things to go into baby's 
mouth are mom's breast, (and any of mom's nipple ointment, bathwater, 
sweat, etc. as go along with this), toys, baby's own hands, and perhaps 
a few fragments of carpet lint or similar things that end up there from 
baby exploring.  Any giving of a vitamin or supplement means baby is not 
exclusively breastfed.
