Interesting follow-up on this thread. Within the last days, I have been in
contact with two moms, both of whom were/are happier with CSections. One was a
client who had an elective section, fiirst baby, and is thrilled. She said she
was afraid of future incontinence, had done a lot of reading and decided with
her husband's sister-in-law's all having sections "since their babies had big
heads" that this would be the best thing for her. She showed her research to
her OB and he said "It's easier for me anyway." Her baby's initial shallow
latches and cracked nipples resolved quickly with asym latches, positioning
assist, and a brief stint with a properly sized shield ( hospital had provided one
that was too small and was actually scraping the nipple abrasion.) Baby was
alert, and did very well. In her case it seemed that her baby did much better
than some moms who have a cascade of interventions, including inductions,
medications administered over long periods of time, and then "end up" with
sections, or even go on to deliver vaginally. The second mom is a second-time mom who
is complaining that her VBAC has left her with much more discomfort that she
experienced with her section first time around. Sounds like her third baby, if
there is one, will be an elective section....
Just interesting to hear their perspectives.
