Thanks to Dr. Decker for her thoughtful comments.  I can tell you from the
experiences of my physician friends, working parttime is definitely frowned
upon by colleagues.  The women in my residency program who had babies during
residency were almost universally thought of as selfish (being more
interested in their children than how much work was being passed off to
others in their absence).  I am fortunate to have had my children after I had
established my own solo practice, so there is noone to harass me about my
choices.
