Mary Alice,
I only worked long distance (via phone) with a baby with velopharyngeal
insufficiency. One of my previous clients had moved to another state,
but called me periodically when her second child was born with this
condition. He breastfed (but not well), lost a lot of milk through his
nose (which was the tipoff to me that the soft palate was not
functioning correctly) and mom needed to do some extra pumping to keep
up her supply. We talked about upright positioning, wedging the breast
to help him maintain a seal, etc. These things seemed to help.

I will remember what you said about DiGeorge syn if I ever run into
another case.
