This may be a touchy subject, BUT I also think there should be a very frank discussion of supplementation options. Both the type of supplement itself (formula vs. formal or informal donor milk) and the method of delivery (SNS, bottle, etc), and the potential risks/benefits of each. I worked with a friend who definitely found her healing from the deep disappointment of unexpected very low supply due to IGT with her first in procuring safe informal donor milk for her next baby and feeding at breast with an SNS. Her second baby did not get a drop of formula for the first year of life and fed almost exclusively at breast. This mother delighted in her nursing relationship with her second baby and felt like super woman for providing so much breastmilk for her for so long, even if it wasn't her own milk per se. That is powerful.
