Take away all the cultural accoutrements and I think the basis for bonding
is the physical needs for mom (uterus to contract - breasts fill) and baby
needs - warmth & food.  The baby makes this more effective by being
appealing.  Because babies are so adaptable, they manage to bond in spite of
