I sort of had to make this decision when I was nursing my daughter. I had a
horrible surgery that required 22 units of blood (plus three of my own that
I had stored). Although I was assured by the medical staff that the blood
supply was safe, I had some real doubts. Especially because they put me on an
HIV protocol where they would do an HIV test at 6 weeks, six months, one year
and 2 years.
Ariel was about 16 months old at the time. I could not deprive her of what
she loves so much and I nursed but I worried until those first two tests came
back negative.
