Naomi writes:
"When I talk about ultrasound and measuring baby size in my
childbirth classes, I always tell couples to ask technicians
and/or docs for the error bars of their findings. The baby
is 6.5 lb + or - what??? No ultrasouns is completely accurate."

The thing is, Naomi, this still accepts the false premise that routine ultrasound is part of birth. Women do not need untrasounds. I have never had one, nor have many of my friends, as homebirth midwives have hands that can read a baby, and we as moms have our own abiltity to read our babies. So long as birth is medicalized and women are taught that they themselves are not the source of accurate information about their own bodies and their own babies, breastfeeding will also continue to be medicalized and women will never trust a process that uttery depends upon trust.
