Tongue tie has been treated for thousands of years by various cultures,
which likely removed the selective disadvantage of the trait. We have
written evidence of treatment in Asia since the beginning of writing
(about 2000 BC or so), and stories from Greece at the time they believed
in the Olympic gods. In historical times, midwives treated with a
fingernail because they were forbidden by law to use instruments, which
were the sole purview of physicians.
