Rachel says that a vegan diet has no omeaga 3's. This is not true. Chia seeds, for example are an amazing source of omega 3's and all of my family eats them. Certain nuts, seeds and green foods have significant levels of omega 3's. I would agree that not everyone is capable of converting omega 3's to DHA, but this would be true of ominivores as well. I also agree that the ratio of 3:6 is the real story, but w/o knowing that exact info, we can look at the SAD and made a good guess that eliminating trans fats and adding food sources of omega 3's would be a good start for most women. Just a note--the reason that olive oil is healthier than other oils is b/c it contains NO omega 3's--therefore it doesn't get rancid and thus is not chemically treated. The chemical treatment that removes the omega 3's from oils makes them shelf-stable and not worthy of human consumption.
