An archive search shows that Drs. Newman and Hale disagreed about the safety
(and efficacy) of 5-hydroxytryptophan for breastfeeding mothers, but the
messages were over two years old. Is there any more recent information or
opinion?

A web search indicates that this substance is a cure-all! The mother who
seems desperate for a medical opinion is nursing an 8-month-old and wants to
use it for depression. She would like to talk directly to an "expert" both
about its safety and appropriate dosages.

Any takers?

TIA
Anne Cook, MS, LLLL
