I agree with other posts, but just wanted to add that not all mole removals are simple procedures.  Some (including my own melanoma) are more extensive than others and require adequate pain relief after.  Perhaps this is one of the doctor's concerns.  Arming herself with evidence from Hale and insisting on a discussion about these issues might be useful for this mother.
