We always try to be polite, professional and diplomatic BUT it sounds like
the other party was not doing the same.
I suggest that if the mother is at all upset about this, as well she should
be after being treated nastily and the doc not even looking at the options,
she could write a letter to the top dogs, stating what occurred and that she
does not wish to see that particular doc again. Request another. That should
make a pretty strong statement. She could also state how helpful you and the
other prescribing doc (your boss) were and that this is the kind of
treatment she expects.
Your role is to support and protect the bf mother and baby and that is what
you did. As Dr. Jack says, the mother can make the final decision whether to
use the med after receiving all the info. Then if the first doc won't
prescribe it, find another.
