I think Dr. Newman has this as one of his "myths". He says its ok to mix. I
would imagine to be a "purist" you would not want to mix and adulterate ebm
in any way, especially like what has already been said about possibly
wasting any ebm. What about bf with a supplementer tube that has formula in
it? You could bf first then open up the clamp of the supplementer later if
you didn't want to mix. I think what his myth thing is saying is that in
reality mom's who have to supplement need an okay to do it easily and not
worry so much about the "purist" aspects of this (for lack of better word).
And hopefully, many, if not most, supplementing can eventually be eliminated
and go to exclusive bf. I think it is more a problem for sick and preterm
babies to get the optimum nutrition and infection fighting benefits. Seems
more research is needed here.
I am really enjoying lactnet discussions lately. Hope the new posters will
continue to contribute. We are really a nice bunch of folks so don't worry.
