Hello,
This week the head of our Neo unit came to Lactation to ask for advice
(!). Here is what happened to the best of my knowledge:
6 day old, 34 week, preemie was fed 5 cc of another mothers milk. It was
fed to baby in a bottle along with preemie formula. Of course the parents
are very upset.
Milk was from a mother of 3 day old, 34 week, twins. This milk has been
tested and found positive for Herpes 1&2 and CMV.
Neo's question is what should happen next. Should or can baby be tested
for CMV and Herpes 1 &2? Should baby's mother be tested to she if she is
already infected with these viruses? What are the chances of baby actually
getting the viruses? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Judith
