All this discussion about credentials, (I know we are not supposed to discuss
this further) I just came across an advertisement in a new magazine that came
to my home. It is Advance for Nurses, serving greater New York/New Jersey
Metro area. I noticed an ad for "Become a childbirth Educator" and/or
"Breastfeeding Counselor certification Program." The certifying organization
is Prepared childbirth educators, Inc. They offer both programs, in 2 days,
followed by an exam and voila! you are a childbirth educator and/or a
breastfeeding counselor. You even get contact hours for your 2 days. Anyone
wanting to check this out, the website is:
www.childbirtheducation.org
This is what I was referring to in a previous post. Anyone can hang a shingle
and call themselves a *certified* childbirth educator or breastfeeding
counselor. Unfortunately, the consumers don't know the difference.
I just couldn't resist, sorry Kathleen, for continuing the discussion. I
won't do it again!
