Sometimes if a mother goes to a doctor very worried and concerned about what
might actually be normal, the doctor might decide to do something to treat
it. I'm getting the feeling that mom is driving this train. She may be
right, but she may be over-concerned due to experience with first baby. I do
find it a bit odd to diagnose a baby with reflux at the newborn exam, if
that is what really happened. Maybe baby spit up and mom got overly
concerned and shared that anxiety with the doctor. <<Please let me state,
that I am just conjecturing, and I would never minimize a mother's concern
for her infant. I say this all the time: Always listen to the mother. Just
last night I watched a "mystery diagnosis" show in which a 3 yo child kept
vomiting and mom knew something was wrong, medical system said virus, but it
turned out to be a diaphragmatic hernia with his stomach in his chest!>>

First, I would explore just normal bf with this mom, finish first breast,
latching, etc. It sounds like she consumes massive amounts of dairy, which
could definitely be a problem, and I would recommend for her a total dairy
elimination, Also if baby does have GI tract yeast, this can give fussiness
and gassiness and unsettledness. So I would recommend he be treated for that
if he indeed has the symptoms.
