I love this Gail, and think that it is a great approach!! In my neck of
the woods, we have two VERY bf'ing supportive pediatricians. Some of the
things that I have overheard them telling moms...
1. (When family fears that baby is still hungry)--Tell your family that
the doctor says that she needs to feed at least 24 times per day.
2. (On jaundice) Tell everyone that your doctor says the more yellow she
becomes, the smarter she will be.
3. (On sleepy babies that are "slow" to begin feeding)-- She has only been
breathing air for a few hours and you alreay expect her to be efficient at
eating??
I think it is a helpful approach to parents--the docs are already sort of
"warning" them what people may say--and the parents are usually rolling
with laughter at their suggestions :)
