Yet another arm of the "grand experiment" which is artificial infant feeding.


You wrote "She has always been a slow gainer, 3-4 ounces a week. Mom is working on the right balance of supplementing extra breastmilk, of which she has plenty (not oversupply, just plenty) and listening to Baby's cues. She has been able to get Baby to take more feeds and a few bottles but she is refusing to drink as much as is offered."



I hope the pediatrician can be convinced that the mother's breastmilk is not lacking, but that baby needs more volume. The mom and pediatrician should be trying to find strategies to help in that direction, and/or investigating why baby is limiting intake. Then if baby is indeed taking in sufficient volumes daily, and is still not gaining appropriately, more investigation is required. I am very glad the mom has plenty of milk. Keep us posted.
