Just to add my .02 here - I think the additional frustration is
that it seems this was somewhat mismanaged by the doctor at the
beginning. If I recall correctly from the original account, the
pediatrician ordered supplements within the first few days.
Having had two small babies, I know how much hangs on weight
gain and loss. However, I think that is probably a cultural
problem more than a medical one. We (meaning society, doctors,
nurses, parents) must learn to trust that If the baby is otherwise
healthy and nursing well, he or she will probably do fine and we
should wait. The western medical system is based on intervention -
DOING something. In emergency situations, this has served us well
over all. However, in other situations, sometimes it is best to wait
and let the body do what it needs to do in the timeframe it needs to
do it. We take average to mean normal and have very narrow error bars
on both average and normal.

Ok so that was probably .05 worth.
