These are "oldies but goodies":

Frank, DA; Wirtz, SF, Sorenson, JR, Heeren, T. Commercial discharge packs and breastfeeding counseling: Effects on infant feeding practices in a randomized trial. Pediatrics 1987; 80:845-54.

Dungy, CI; Christensen-Szalanski, JC; Losch, M; Russell, D. Effect of discharge samples on duration of breast-feeding. Peiatrics 1992;90:233-7.

Bergevin, Y; Dougherty, C; Kramer, M. Do infant formula samples shorten the duration of breast-feeding? Lancet 1983; i:1148-51.

More recently, this article, while not mentioning formula packs per se, found that "a perceived neutral attitude from the hospital staff is related to not breastfeeding beyond 6 weeks.":

DiGirolamo, AM; Grummer-Strawn, LM; Fein, SB. Do perceived attitudes of physicians and hospital staff affect breastfeeding decisions? Birth 2003 30:2, 94-100.

Hope these help. Good luck!

Smiles,

Carol

Hi all

I have a new boss that hasn't a clue on Maternal Child Health or
breastfeeding. Myself, other LCs and the other breastfeeding supporters on
my floor have been trying to keep formula bags out of our hospital but this
boss wants them back in. She sent me this statement today and I need your
help in find the references to at least dispute her statement. I'm trying
to be cool but my blood pressure is rising.

"There is no evidence in the literature that indicates if a hospital gives
out bags from formula companies that they have influenced a mother's choice.
The decision to breastfeed is not influenced by a bag"

Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
