Just venting my frustration at the number of babies I encountered this week
who, after receiving just one bottle, refused a breast that was making milk
at 48 hours postpartum.

Most babies are delighted to get out from under bili lights and back in
mother's arms and nursing at a full, flowing breast. Not Mr. Cantankerous.
Most babies after several good breastfeeds and one supplement (poorly
justified) will easily take the breast again. Not Mr. Irrate.

I have a theory. I think they talk to each other in the nursery. "Hey
Dude, if you hold out long enough, they'll give you this super easy bottle
and you won't ever have to work again." "No Way, Dude!" "Yes, Way! Check
it out!" And sure enough. A hungry baby can outlast a sleep-deprived and
hormonal mother, and even look mother in the eye accusingly while she gives
him a bottle and says, "What were you waiting for?"

<sigh>
Back to the trenches.
