This seems a little excessive to me. I realize that women can express
a little milk for months, perhaps years after they finished nursing,
particularly when they nurse for a *normal* period of time (2 to 4
years and beyond), but spontaneous leaking, for two years, even when
she nursed for such a short period of time makes me wonder.
Last time I said this, I got a little slapped down for suggesting a CT
scan, but the mother in fact did have a prolactinoma. It is extremely
important to try to decide what the limits of "normal" are. In the
case of the mother who weaned 2 or 3 months beforehand and was still
soaking two diapers each night, this was clearly abnormal.
So what could cause this:
i) a prolactinoma
ii) certain drugs (metoclopramide, digitalis, others)
iii) perhaps hyperthyroidism
It's too bad you don't have universal health insurance in the US. The
mother soaking the diapers got her CT scan at no cost to her
(political statement).
