Hi Nikki,
We all get in these situations & it can be very frustrating to hear such poor
information given to expectant or new moms. Working in a hospital, I often
have to correct misinformation given by another nurse or a physician -- talk
about being put on the spot! I may comment that the (mis)information is not
the most recent available or according to recent studies & then give them the
better information. Another way is to say that many moms find that "thus &
such" works well.
I would certainly try to get this mom aside & offer my services for
breastfeeding information & assistance. A good shower gift is a good book on
breastfeeding, such as The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. There are all the
right answers in black & white & maybe someone else will see the book &
purchase one to give to another expectant mom at another shower. Thus the
good word spreads.
