Dear all:

Well, just found a huge discrepancy -- the stats I found on the NY DOH website are from
Pediatric Nutrition Surveillance Data --- which had the little CDC logo at the bottom. The
stats I found on the CDC website for the same year (2005) as provisional stats from the
National Immunization Survey were better at around 30% exclusivity for 3 months and
around 12% exclusivity for 6 months. I'm sure the big discrepancy is either in the wording
of the questions and/or the method of collection. Quite frankly, I find I have to probe
deeply to get the "oh, yes, they did give a bottle of formula in the hospital". If you ask if
its been just breastmilk, most mothers will initially say yes without further probing.

Best, Susan E. Burger
