Hi all,
Friday March 29th, Mead Johnson has announced (quietly) another formula
recall: Portagen powder, batch coded BMC17, has been recalled due to a
death on an infant from a rare meningitis caused by bacteria Enterobacter
sakazakii after being fed this formula. The death occured last summer, the
recall announced yesterday. Portagen is a specialty formula for infants
with fat absorption problems.
For more information, see the FDA recall press release at
http://www.fda.gov/oc/po/firmrecalls/meadjohnson03_02.html

I searched the Mead Johnson website fully and could not find any notice
whatsoever of this most recent recall. There are no easy links for Recall
Information on the Mead Johnson site, they are mixed in with other press
releases. I found another recall from last summer for LactoFree® infant
formula sample packs and Enfamil® A.R.® mixed in with press releases for
Environmental Awards, Nutritional Tips for Toddlers, and New Website for
Parent Education.

Happy Holidays.
Nancy
