As of yesterday, the mom with the 14month (now probably 15 month!) is with a
doctor/nurse practicioner I recommended. She started finally on Diflucan
100mg bid x 2 wks. Also Lotrisone cream. The antibiotic didn't work and the
one dose of Diflucan DID work she said for a couple days. However, I have an
urgent question now: I was reading a back issue of JHL and from
Consultant's Corner "There's a Fungus Among Us!"(JHL 9 (3), 1993, P.179,180)
on page 180 and I quote: "Difulcan(spelling as in article)...systemic
anti-fungal medications. When administered, they appear in bm in
concentrations similar to that of plasma; therefore, bf is not recommended.
The mother may be advised to pump or hand express and discard her milk during
this treatment. The milk should not be refrigerated or frozen for later
use." (My underline, not in article)
She IS bf...and has been all along. Also, how much nausea, etc, does anyone
see or other side effects? She is also taking acidophilus. I am really
concerned with this recommendation to not bf. The article was written by
