I was just reading some of the June 99 JHL [vol 15, no 2, p. 121] articles
that I had not read yet. One is very pertinent to this discussion of what
newborns and older babies need per 24 hrs. "Effects of parity on bf: a study
in the rural setting in northern Thailand" by Amatayakul, K. et al.
Anyway, p. 123, table 2 gives the 24 hrs intakes at various ages (newborn wt
average 3.3 kg which is 7.3 pounds):
15 days old - 627 cc for primips, 639 cc for multips (20-21 ounces)
90 days old - 625cc, 644cc
180 days old - 563cc, 561cc
24 hr Feed frequency (they co-slept):
15 days - 16.7, 16.5
90 days - 12.0, 11.8
180 days - 11.7, 11.4
