Permission to post. I have a mother who has a 5-month old baby who was recently diagnosed with a moderate to severe peanut and tree nut allergy. Mom has been exclusively breastfeeding baby. Baby has a few episodes of rash, hives, and fecal occult blood. Mom was told to start Alimentum by pedi, which I obviously advised against. She is terrified of baby's allergies and has completely cut out dairy, soy, and nuts. I advised her to resume normal foods (staying away from tree nuts) and keep an eye out for any other reactions in baby.
Mom has an entire freezer of frozen BM. My question is this...Mom obviously doesn't know what her diet consisted of over the past 5 months, can the frozen BM still be given to baby? I was completely taken aback with this question. I cannot in good conscience tell mom to throw away all her hard work, but I know that reactions get more severe over time.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
