I don't know where any of the "research" is, but I have heard that
breastmilk doesn't cause tooth decay in and of itself, in fact teeth
immersed in breast milk came out better than those immersed in
water...*but* if the breastmilk was mixed with sugar, then decay
happened that was just about as bad as the formula, or cow's milk (or
whatever else) decay.
The moral of this story, I took it, was to always brush before bed, and
no snacks after that: only water or breastmilk. Well, brush more often
than that, fine, but especially before bed.
