" Images of baby bottles are everywhere!"
"But how does one replace those images with something related to
breastfeeding in
this crazy culture we live in (especially those of us in the USA)? "

"What has anyone thought of or found that could be used to help
replace some
of that?"

If it doesn't deal with feeding, does the image have to include any
feeding method? A while back there was a newspaper article stating
some statistics regarding the hospital OB unit. Next to the table
was a drawing of a bottle. When I complained, the response was,
"What do you want us to do, show a boob?". My response was why not
something like a rattle or a cute baby face line drawing or a
building block or any number of other images that a reader would
associate with an infant since the statistics had nothing to do with
feeding.
The bottle feeding culture is so strong that bottle = baby even when
feeding has nothing to do with the subject at hand. This is why it
is so prevalent on baby congratulation cards, baby wrapping paper,
etc. So one step in getting to breast as norm is to eradicate this
tendency to always show a bottle with a baby regardless of the real
topic. It may also be part of the "if Dad doesn't feed a bottle
he's not involved with baby" mentality. It is what the formula
manufacturers feed on with the "of course you'll need to use a
bottle (formula) at some time because bottles and babies naturally
go together"!
It will be great when we reach the point where society thinks
baby=breast, but to push for that when feeding is not the subject at
hand tends to label us as radicals. Eliminating the attitude that
when there is a baby there will naturally be a bottle is the first
step and certainly one that even the most avid of formula supporters
can't really complain about.
