Oh Evonne, how I ache for you and me! I have a bottle-feeding sister too.
First baby was put on bottle at about 8 days, long phone calls between
Zimbabwe and Kenya (where she lives), felt so helpless over the phone, but
reassured that she was getting help from an expert from the BF Info Group
there who sounded spot-on. Second baby due three years later, I went up to
be with her for the first two weeks, saw baby put to breast within hours of
delivery, did *everything* I could to make it possible, comfortable, lovely,
delicious. She gave up within days of me leaving, but baby did have EBM for
a while and this time she didn't have all the engorgement and pain of sudden
weaning. By some miracle I managed to "understand". Three years later we
are still good friends. Family and friends are particularly difficult to
help. You're not super-human, and we can't win 'em all! My worst nightmare
is to have a daughter-in-law who bottle-feeds - now *that* will be a challenge!
