A previous post with questions about the amount of formula supplied by
WIC needs to be clarified. The 30-can number refers to standard 13
(liquid) oz. cans of liquid concentrate per month. When powdered formula
is issued, the maximum number of cans issued per month is 9 cans. I
believe there are close to 12 ounces (by weight) of powder in each can.

As mentioned, once the baby grows to be near 10 pounds, the family will
need to begin purchasing more formula by cash or food stamps before the
end of each month. For those mothers who begin breastfeeding and for some
reason, do not choose to continue exclusive breastfeeding, the financial
benefit may be one of the incentives that sometimes persuades them to
maintain partial breastfeeding.
