Hi, Lactnetters: I have several questions re: Meds. A client called today
asking if it is OK to take Cortisone by injection while breastfeeding.
Apparently, this is part of the treatment prescribed by her dermatologist
for cystic acne. The condition is not just a cosmetic problem, but one that
causes her a lot of discomfort. The AAP has nothing to say about cortisone
at all, and Briggs simply says that no data are available. This is such a
commonly used medication, I can't believe there's no info. out there.
The second question is about 2 meds. being prescribed quite often by the docs
for postpartum moms in the hospital: Unisyn and Cipro. Neither of these
drugs are listed in the above sources, so I have no ammunition when the docs
say no breastfeeding.
Any info. anyone has on these 3 meds. would be greatly appreciated. Please
post on LACTNET or e-mail me. Thanks! Kim
