For those of you who don't know, Dr. Satcher, the US Surgeon General, will be at the LLLI Conference. I was wondering if someone who is more likely to get closer to him than I ever will will ask him about the dioxin/contaminants issue in breastmilk and what he might want to encourage the US gov't to do about it.

Chicago, IL (June, 2001)-Dr. David Satcher, Surgeon General of the United
States and Assistant Secretary for Health will address La Leche League
International's 17th Breastfeeding Conference Monday July 9, 2001 at 12:30
PM at the Hilton Chicago.

Dr. Satcher will speak on the health benefits associated with breastfeeding
and the importance of breastfeeding for minority populations. Dr. Satcher
initiated the U.S. Health and Human Services Blueprint for Action on
Breastfeeding, the first comprehensive framework to increase breastfeeding
rates and to promote optimal breastfeeding practices. Dr. Satcher states, "
Low breastfeeding rates documented in the Blueprint for Action are a
serious public health challenge particularly in certain minority
communities. With scientific evidence indicating that breastfeeding can
play an important role in an infant's health, the time has come for us to
work together to promote optimal breastfeeding practices."
Dr. Satcher is the 16th Surgeon General of the United States. He also held
the posts of Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and
the Administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.
He is the recipient of more than 25 honorary degrees and numerous
distinguished honors including top awards from the American Medical
Association and the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Satcher will be joining other world-renowned speakers at La Leche
League International's 17th Breastfeeding Conference which will be held
July 7-10, 2001. LLLI is a nonprofit organization that offers a variety of
educational opportunities for medical professionals, publishes and sells
books and magazines on breastfeeding and parenting and maintains an
award-winning website at www.lalecheleague.org.
