I had a mom contact me via a LLL facebook page about continuing to nurse her 7 week old while mom takes Copaxone. I have read and passed along the information in Hale 2010 to this mother and have also passed along the Infant Risk center's number.
She was diagnosed in 2007 and was off this medication while TTC and during pregnancy. Her baby is 7 weeks old and when she followed up with her neurologist he wants her to stop breastfeeding and resume the Copaxone because of 3 new active lesions. The MD does admit he doesn't know when the lesions first appeared as her last MRI was 2 years ago.

She states she loves breastfeeding and wants to continue but she is getting pressure from her mother and husband to stop breastfeeding, resume the medication and formula feed.

The risk of taking the Copaxone does not seem that great with its very high molecular weight, it seems unlikely much could get into the milk.

She asked me to share her information and would like to be in contact with other moms who have MS or LCs, medical professionals that have worked with moms in her situation.

Thanks so much in advance for your shared wisdom.
