Sylvia,
Contrary to the picture in the SNS booklet, I place the tape
vertically over the tubing(completely covering the tube) beginning at the
base of the nipple and extending out about 2" or so. I always re-draw
the tape "my way" over the picture in the booklet!
There's been a lot said both ways about pumping before the baby
actually meets his new mom. Most compelling reason for not in my
experience is the large number of disappointments adoptive moms can run
into and end up with some milk and no baby. I give the moms all the
facts and they go home and discuss with their partners and come to a
decision and then we write a plan.
Years ago there was a popular magazine article, something like "
I Nursed my Adopted Baby!!" One thing that stuck with me all this time
was the mom in the story was never able to provide all of the milk the
baby needed but considered herself providing psychological calories.
Neat, huh?
