Thanks to all who replied. The boy-boy, girl-girl scenario worked, or
at least the local health professionals thought it would. The reason is
that apparently it was only the presently nursing child who would become
kin. Previously nursed or future nursed babies did not count. Now,
don't ask me why, because it seems to me that shouldn't make a
difference, but I don't make the rules. Sorry I left out that crucial
bit of information.

I got quite a number of private emails that did not show up on Lactnet
some explaining variations in the custom, so it could vary from place to
place. One person stated that it was her understanding that if the baby
did not get 3 full feedings, it did not count. Or it counted only if
the mother was nursing a child under age 2 years.

Great responses, though, despite the missing key info. Thanks alot to
all who gave it some thought.

Thank you also for all the thoughts on the "two mothers" situation. So
many people really came up with so many subtle and thoughtful ideas, I
was quite flabbergasted by everything I had *not* even taken into
account. Unfortunately, the majority were *not* also posted on Lactnet,
for various reasons.

Jack
