I had a similar experience when my own children were admitted into a gifted
program. While the forms asked for details about their births, among many
other things, there were no questions about breastfeeding. Surely it seems
logical that the method of feeding during the early years of rapid brain
growth would reasonably have some effect on intelligence?

Anyway, I later became president of the PTA at the gifted-only school my
children attended, and I conducted my own survey. I got to know many of the
parents, and I always asked about breastfeeding. These children were born
between 1977 and 1981, a time when breastfeeding was not common, yet the
vast majority of them were breastfed for at least a few months. I know, not
statistically valid, but it was certainly striking to me.
