In the course of supporting a new breastfeeding family I was given a box
that arrived at their door, conveniently at day 2 postpartum, when baby had
yet to nurse effectively. It is a lovely (tongue firmly in cheek) gold box
with a bow and tons of literature about combining formula feeding with
breastfeeding. This was sent by Enfamil and contained a big can of powdered
Lipil. Besides being angry, outraged and feeling quick sick for the past
couple days, I am wanting to do something about this. I just am not sure
what to do. The parents, luckily, wanted nothing to do with it and were
appalled to learn that the components were genetically engineered. They
gave it to me so that it wouldn't be in their house while working on
breastfeeding. I have given a lesson on marketing to my 10 yo daughter. So
now to my question. What can I do? I thought there was someone on Lactnet,
maybe one of the Marsha's that was collecting things like this. Is that
true? Is there anything I can do? These parents will be writing a letter
to Motherhood Maternity to complain about the sale of their personal
information. If anyone has ideas as to what I should do or who I can write
to, please share. In the meantime I am educating everyone who comes into my
house about marketing, formula, breastfeeding and the WHO Code! Thanks for
any ideas!
