Okay, Linda R., here's mine: when teaching manual expression of breast milk,
I have the mother make a loose fist to simulate her breast, then I 'express
milk' from her fist, pressing back, then rolling the fingers and thumb toward
each other and the 'areola', pointing out that my fingers are not rubbing over
the skin, but rather pushing the skin forward. Since the skin on the hand is
loose like the skin of the breast, this works well. Using their hand gives
them kinesthetic as well as visual stimuli, and no one is embarrassed. They
then try it on their real breast.
