Hi Karleen,

I pasted the wrong citation for you. It should have been:

Neifert, M. R. (2001). Prevention of breastfeeding tragedies. Pediatric Clinics of North America, 48(2).

In it, she cites Neifert, DeMarzo, & Seacat (1990) for her 15% total, but goes on to *estimate* that "as many as 5% of women may have primary insufficient lactation because of anatomical breast variations or medical illness that make them unable to produce a full milk supply despite heroic efforts." She also lists retained placenta, breast surgery, inadequate mammary tissue, and previous breast radiation as part of that 5%.

She's not the first, but this 5% figure is in nearly everything of hers I've read over the last few months.
