When I had my 4th child and he was 4 mos. old I became a breastfeeding peer
counselor and took my baby along to teach classes with me. I wanted to be a
good example so I learned somethings that made nursing even more discreet
without feeling like I had to cover me and baby up with a blanket:

1 Slings or other carriers that carry baby's skin to skin (in the sling have
the baby's head on the same side as the rings, down inside the pouch.
Particularly great for nursers that become easily distracted.)

2 Nursing clothing (undo bra and arrange under garments before bringing baby
up to nurse and be sure to be discreet even at home or baby won't want the
fabric near his face when you go out. This same thing applies to the
blanket or cape coverings.)

3 Hold baby in *very* proper positioning (this way baby's head covers more
breast, I often see mothers holding babies like this even when they aren't
nursing and you really can't tell the difference unless you peek over the
baby to look, which is the same with a blanket. I am often thinking "is she
or isn't she?" lol)

AND MY FAVORITE:

4 Have the baby wear a cap. (with a large brim shaped like the old fashion
baby bonnet kind works best or sun or baseball type cap.)
