Maureen notes the peculiarity that clothing or diaper companies don't do
gift bags to promote their products.
It is simple: there is no alternative product that can be produced nearly
free of cost by the mother's own body. There is only one reason to market
something, and that is to increase its sales. Everyone already buys clothes
and diapers (OK, I'm sure there is someone on this list who grows their own
flax, cotton and keeps sheep, but they don't pose a serious commercial
threat to the industry), so there is little to gain, unlike the potential
for sales increase by luring women to stop breastfeeding.

where my hospital actually did give away woollen breast pads on behalf of a
local business that was very BF-friendly, for a couple of years. They
stopped because it didn't work: once the mothers had their free set, they
didn't need to buy anything else, and the business didn't have the necessary
surplus to keep giving presents.
